Frequently Asked Questions
When will my child practice?
2016 Practice Schedule is TBD.
How can I buy SSPW Apparel?
Click the link to My Locker from the SSPW website. www.sspw.net
Will my child learn to play every position or cheer in all positions?
All participants will be taught the basic skills required to play football or participate in cheer. It is, however, not practical from a time, safety, age and ability perspective to teach every participant every position. Coaches will determine through a fair and objective process the appropriate positions for your child. The goal of the process is to place your child in a position that, taken into consideration their skill set, size, etc, will maximum their contribution to the overall success of the team and their enjoyment of the sport.
In regards to football, will every child receive equal playing time?
Each player is required by Pop Warner to play a minimum number of plays during a game and volunteers are used to keep track of this information to insure compliance. Overall playing time is determined by the head coach based on multiple factors including, attendance at practice, attitude and behavior during practice, safety and ability.
Do I have to stay for my child’s practice?
For cheer, it is not necessary for a parent to remain at practice.
For football, we recommend that either a parent or a representative of the parent (i.e. teammates parent or friend) be at the field at all times. If you cannot be there, it is imperative the commissioner and coach for your child’s team be notified and approve of your absence and have current contact information in case of emergency or inclement weather.
In the event of persisient inclement weather (e.g. thunder or lightening) practice will be ended and parents must be available to take their child/children home.
How can I participate as a parent?
Volunteers are the most important part of our organization drive the success of our organization! First off, to volunteer please contact a league officer about helping put. Contact information can be found under Contacts on our home page.
During the football season, volunteers are needed to monitor playing time and handle the down marker and chains. Contact your head coach if you are interested in volunteering.
Pop Warner programs nationwide are required to annually conduct a background check of Coaches, Board of Directors members and any other persons, volunteers or hired workers, who provide regular service to the league and/or have repetitive access to, or contact with, players and/or spirit participants. The purpose of these background checks is, first and foremost, to protect the children.
