How can I buy SSPW Apparel? Simply follow the link to My Locker from the SSPW website. www.sspw.net
Will my child learn to play every position or cheer in all positions? Coaches will determine position placement. It is not safe or appropriate for all athletes to play in every position. This determination will be based on points such as ability, size, etc.
In regards to football, will every child receive equal playing time? Pop Warner has minimum play requirements that must be met by each team during a game and volunteers are used to keep track of this information. However, you should be aware the your coach will determine the playing time for each individual player based on many things including, attendance at practice, previous experience in program, ability and attitude.
Do I have to stay for my child’s practice? For cheer, it is not necessary for a parent to remain at practice. However, you must have a plan for inclement weather. If there is thunder or lightening, practice will immediately end. For football, we recommend that either a parent or a representative of the parent (ie teammate parent, friend) be available at the field at all times. If you cannot be there, it is imperative the commissioner and coach for your child’s team be notified and aware of best method of contact in case of emergency or inclement weather.
How can I participate as a parent? SSPW is run completely by volunteers. We welcome parents to work with us to make this the best possible program. Volunteers are needed during every game to keep track of minimum play requirements and work the chains. Additionally, it is appropriate to cheer for your player/cheerleader from the sidelines and encourage them. It is not appropriate for parents to yell at coaches or attempt to “help” them during games. If you have a suggestion for your coach, please meet with them privately to discuss your wishes. This will be strictly enforced and you may be asked to leave a game if the problem continues.
When will games begin? Game schedules will be made available to all coaches and on the website as soon as Capital District provides one. Generally, we host a scrimmage over the 3rd weekend of August and then play begins Labor Day weekend.
How far away will we have to travel for games? Most games are held within an hour of Saratoga with half of all games here.
