Cheer

Overview

Cheerleading was officially recognized in the 1970's, but has been a part of the Pop Warner program for several decades. The first ever National Cheerleading competition was held in DeKalb County, GA. Today, 160,000 children are participating in cheerleading around the United States. Pop Warner programs emphasize fun for all and encourage the development of qualities important long after Pop Warner days are gone.

Saratoga Springs Pop Warner Cheer offers kids from 5-15 years old the opportunity to participate and perform in an organized, supervised, safety-oriented environment. We do not hold tryouts; our squads are filled on a first-come, first-served basis and cap at 35 members each. In 2008 we had approximately 75 cheerleaders split between five squads and we hope to grow larger this year! The youngest teams learn the basics in a safe and fun way! As the cheerleaders grow in age and skill they move up the line, learning more complex cheers and stunts from certified coaches. Kids that complete the highest levels of Pop Warner cheer are well qualified to move to the high school squads and compete on a national level.
